Tomorrow is SharePoint Saturday in New York City! I'm super excited about it; this will be only the second SPS event that I've attended, and my first in New York. The size and strength of the SharePoint community has absolutely amazed me since I began focusing on SP less than a year ago, and these events are such an incredible opportunity to meet, network with, and learn from so many brilliant people.
I will also be speaking for the very first time tomorrow. SPS NYC is testing out the concept of a "lightning talk" for the first time this year, in order to give lesser-known local professionals like myself an opportunity to get our feet wet. I generally don't have any qualms about presenting in front of an audience, but I still don't feel 30% as smart as my colleagues at work and in the larger SharePoint community, so having to pretend to be an expert in front of them is a bit scary :)
My topic is "Dissecting the SharePoint Master Page" and will offer a very brief overview of v4.master and its core components for those who have little/no branding experience but are interested or would benefit from some basic knowledge.
Lightning talks are only ten minutes long, which it turns out is not a lot of time. I actually thought it would be perfect to be able to hit my topic at a fairly high level and not be struggling to fill an entire hour or more, but yesterday I went through everything I've put together and realized I could easily fill 30 minutes with it. So tomorrow I'll have to simplify and move quickly, and maybe next time I'll need to submit for a full session.
Aside from giving my talk, I'm very excited to watch a few of my coworkers speak for the first time, learn more about branding, FIS, InfoPath, usability, PowerShell, cloud, and of course SharePoint 2013. It's going to be a great day!
